This whip is a predecessor of today's riding crop.
Before the invention of glass fibre inlays these crops were made by sewing together several layers of tapered strips of leather. The combination of rigidity and elasticity is what makes this whip exceptional. The rounded handle means it is very comfortable to manage and can be driven with extraordinary precision.
The flexible swat allows a variation of intensity from bearable to very fierce.
It's one of our favourite new toys and should not be amiss in any well assorted whip collection!
One very attractive element of this whip is its complete production from leather, compared with the high ratio of synthetic components in most riding crops.
We produce these whips from especially high-quality English bridle leather (please see additional description below) in the following colours:
- black with black stitching
- black with red stitching
- bordeauxred / black
- black with brown stitching
- mahagony / black
- london / black
Length of whip approx. 54 centimetres
(plus hand loop)
Width of swat approx. 2.5 centimetres
Our English bridle leather is an especially high-quality drum dyed leather and has a thickness of approximately 3,5 to 4 millimetres.
The surface is not covered with insoluble pigments, but natural, providing a particularly pleasant grip and feel.
Over time it becomes softer, rather than harder (in contrast to cheap belt leather, which turns hard and brittle after a while).
This leather benefits from a little dubbing from time to time; oil, however should not be used, as due to the naturally retained surface it could change the colour of the leather.
