The Alcatraz-Strap comes from the prison island Alcatraz, which has risen to legendary fame in the middle of the last century, located just off of San Francisco. There the especially bad eggs, for example Al Capone, had been detained and reformed (or not...).
Corporal punishment was the daily fare and the really bad ones needed especially fierce 'care'.
Thus our Alcatraz-Strap is especially in this long version one of our exceptionally mean instruments and definitely not for people of a soft disposition or for beginners!
The long handle lends momentum to the strap, the flexibility of the heavy saddle leather makes for a particularly wicked and long lasting effect.
Apart from this long version the Alcatraz-Strap is also available in a shorter, more petite version. Both variants are available with or without an 'intensification'
(see other articles in the 'Straps' section).
For the production of the Alcatraz-Strap we use our heavy English saddle leather (for more information see below) in the following colours:
- burgundy (edges and stitching in black)
Detailed measurements of the Alcatraz-Strap:
handle approx. 39 centimetres, diameter approx. 2,7 to 3,3 centimetres
tongue approx. 50 centimetres, width approx. 4,5 centimetres
Full length approx. 89 centimetres
Our heavy English saddle leather is an especially high-quality drum dyed leather and has a thickness of approximately 4,5 to 5 millimetres.
The surface is not covered with insoluble pigments, but natural, providing a particularly pleasant grip and feel.
Over time it becomes softer, rather than harder (in contrast to cheap belt leather, which turns hard and brittle after a while).
This leather benefits from a little dubbing from time to time; oil, however should not be used, as due to the naturally retained surface it could change the colour of the leather.
