When the rubber cushions are removed from the Young Tongue Forceps, the smooth inner surface makes them very suitable for female nipples and to grip firmer skin tissue, i. e. in the genital area. Without the cushions, the forceps stay open almost one centimetre at the first setting, so that a strong nipple is first only exposed to a careful and generally bearable pressure. Only when the forceps are closed further on the narrower settings does the pressure increase considerably.
