'The Improver' has it's origins in the American reformatories of the 19th century, where the behaviour of young people who had gone astray were going to be "improved". Typically it was used to spank the bottom of a person who stood bent forward and the strikes were administered from above as well as from the sides.
The particularly severe effect of the extremely long swatter made it a greatly feared instrument!
This strap develops an effect of its own, which is generated from the transition of the flat swat to the round handle.
The distinct swing of the thick and heavy leather makes this strap a perfect punishing implement for a hard spanking.
For the production of the Improver we use our heavy English saddle leather (for more information see below) in the following colours:
- black with black stitching (pictures will follow)
- black with brown stitching
- burgundy (pictures will follow)
- mahagony (pictures will follow)

Our heavy English saddle leather is an especially high-quality drum dyed leather and has a thickness of approximately 4,5 to 5 millimetres.
The surface is not covered with insoluble pigments, but natural, providing a particularly pleasant grip and feel.
Over time it becomes softer, rather than harder (in contrast to cheap belt leather, which turns hard and brittle after a while).
This leather benefits from a little dubbing from time to time; oil, however should not be used, as due to the naturally retained surface it could change the colour of the leather.
We use this leather in the following colours:

- bordeauxred (sometimes also a little lighter)
- london (the description for this almost un-dyed leather originates from equestrian sport)
